چکیده

Environmental and meteorological phenomena play a major role in the transport and diversification of plant populations. According to a wide range of parameters, including the seed size and density, winds and water currents are instrumental in the dispersal of the said populations. In this paper, a colored Petri Nets (CPN) based behavioral model of the transport and dispersal of populations through the Tunisian coats islands is presented. A special attention to the Isozyme transport mechanism and frequencies, and the simulation results did show a uni-directional flow of the genetic material that matches with the observed populations.

Phenology, fruit production and seed dispersal of Astrocaryum jauari (Arecaceae) in Amazonian black water floodplains.

Astrocaryum jauari Mart. (Arecaceae) is one of the commonest palm species occurring in nutritionally poor Amazonian black water floodplains. It is an emergent or subcanopy tree that grows on river banks and islands, with a wide distribution along the entire flooding gradient, tolerating flood durations between 30 and 340 days. The species is important for fish nutrition in the floodplains, and ...

Pseudoseeds: Investigating Long-Distance, Ocean Seed Dispersal with Wireless Sensors

Recent theoretical research has shown that ocean currents and wind interact to disperse seeds over long distances among isolated landmasses. Dispersal of seeds among isolated oceanic islands, by birds, oceans and man, is a well-known phenomenon, and many widespread island plants have traits that facilitate this process. Crucially, however, there have been no mechanistic vector-based models of l...

Amphi-Atlantic phylogeography of direct-developing lineages of Lasaea, a genus of brooding bivalves

Direct-developing intertidal Lasaea spp. occur in the North Atlantic as both continental margin and oceanic island populations. We conducted a molecular phylogenetic analysis of representative populations in order to test colonization hypotheses for North Atlantic oceanic islands. Thirty individuals each were collected in 1995 and 1996 from two continental putative source populations (Florida, ...

Seed yield and oil quality of perennial castor bean in a Mediterranean environment

ewline"> Castor (Ricinus communis L.) is an oilseed species, which in southern Italy iscultivated as annual during the spring-summer period under irrigation, but in mosttemperate areas such as those of eastern coast of Sicily, it could be grown as semiperennial with no irrigation, by the adoption of autumnal sowings. A fieldexperiment was conducted in southeastern Sicily with the aim of assessi...

Long-distance plant dispersal to North Atlantic islands: colonization routes and founder effect

Long-distance dispersal (LDD) processes influence the founder effect on islands. We use genetic data for 25 Atlantic species and similarities among regional floras to analyse colonization, and test whether the genetic founder effect on five islands is associated with dispersal distance, island size and species traits. Most species colonized postglacially via multiple dispersal events from sever...
